How do I become a better teacher? 

In 2019, a guru planted a seed in my head about pursuing a PhD. I ended up enrolling to the PhD at Temple University Japan. It has been a great journey and I'm very glad to have equipped myself with research methods, and knowledge about language education. As an elementary school teacher, I was immersed in children's books. This got me curious about the working of Children's Literature. Although this was not directly related to education, the program widened my horizon about the historical development, literary craft, and analytical theories about children's books.

One of my favorite courses of this program was the summer intensive course on Special Education. Prior to this course I had already met children with special needs in my classroom but didn't quite understand their situations and what interventions would work best for them. Through the capable and experienced lecturer, I saw the world and the school environment through the eyes of special needs children and understood what strategies would make their learning more meaningful and suitable to their needs.

My three years in the School of Journalism and Communication were invaluable. I have come to understand and appreciate how trustworthy media obtain and disseminate information. Although the media and information landscape have changed drastically since I graduated from the program, the training I had undergone is still very much relevant in helping me navigate this complex landscape of contemporary media and communication.
